The Bowling Committee met in 2001 and decided that we have a sufficient
pool of good bowlers to compete against other bowlers in the Corporate
sector. It initiated the 1st Rotary Rotary Clubs Corporate Management Bowling
League and invited many of the well known and established companies - local
and international - to participate.
The criteria of only allowing management personnel to bowl in the league
was to ensure that the league maintain a certain level of stature and not
be like other ordinary commercial bowling league.
The 1st Corporate Leafue was organized and co-hosted with Cathay Bowl which
manages several bowling alleys in Singapore and have a good marketing and
administrative back-up staff to assist Rotary in the organizing of the
league. Many Corporate firms participated in the league which also enjoyed
the support of many sponsors who contributed cash and products for the
sponsorship. The participating companies included UOB Group, City Development
Ltd, Fuji Xerox, Merrill Lynch, Ernst and Young, Cathay Organization, Carlton
Hotel, Selideas, MobilOne Ltd, Reuters, TNT Worldwide, and three Rotary
teams. The main sponsor, Sweet Times Cafe, sponsored the dinner/drinks
for every night of the league for all the bowlers present.
The teams participating were:

The Open Masters was held on 3rd January 2003, and each team was represented
by their top two bowlers. This allowed every participating team to be represented
in the Open Masters. The 1st Rotary Corporate League ended with a Grand
Gala Prize Presentation Dinner held at the Conrad Centennial Hotel and
guest of honor was DGE David Tong and spouse Irene. All sponsors were invited
and each team was given a table of 10 seats for the bowlers. Ms. Clare
Yeo, a 9-yr old child prodigy, entertained the dinners. The League enjoyed
very positive response from companies and sponsors.
A 2nd Corporate Leagueis now inplanning.
